Humanise AI content without losing a single fact
Humanise is a ProofedAI option that rewrites machine-sounding prose so it reads as if a person wrote it. It keeps every fact, name, number and heading, follows your style guide, and reports how many AI tells it removed. It is for anyone publishing text drafted with AI.
What does humanised text look like?
An example we wrote to show the idea: one paragraph, before and after.

What is an AI tell?
An AI tell is a habit of machine-written prose that readers have learned to spot. One on its own does no harm. A page full of them makes people skim, then stop trusting what they are reading. These are the tells Humanise looks for.
| Tell | Looks like | What Humanise does |
|---|---|---|
| Filler | “In today’s fast-paced world”, “it is important to note that” | Cuts it and starts with the point |
| Stacked hedges | “may potentially help to somewhat reduce” | Keeps one hedge where the claim needs it |
| Rule-of-three reflex | “clear, concise and compelling” when one word would do | Trims lists that are padding and keeps real ones |
| Pet words | “delve”, “tapestry” | Uses the plain word |
| Identical openers | Paragraph after paragraph starting “Additionally,” | Varies or drops them |
| Em-dash overuse | A dash in nearly every sentence | Uses commas, colons and full stops instead |
What does Humanise leave alone?
Your substance. Facts, names, numbers and dates stay exactly as written. Headings, lists and tables stay where they are, so the document keeps its shape. Humanise changes how a sentence says something, never what it says.
If your account has a style guide, the rewritten sentences follow it: your spellings, your terms, your rules about numbers and capitals.
Humanise does not check whether your facts are right. For that, add a fact-check to the same upload.
How is Humanise different from an AI rewriter?
Most rewriting tools take text pasted into a box and hand back new text. Humanise works on the document itself and treats your facts as fixed.
| Feature | ProofedAI Humanise | Typical paste-in rewriter |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | Your uploaded document | Text pasted into a box |
| Facts, names and numbers | Kept as written | Can be reworded along with everything else |
| Headings, lists and tables | Kept in place | Lost when you paste |
| Your style guide | Followed | Not known to the tool |
| What it reports | How many AI tells it removed | Usually nothing |
| Promises to beat AI detectors | No | Often |
Will humanised text pass an AI detector?
We do not promise that, and we would be wary of anyone who does. AI detectors disagree with one another, change without notice and flag human writing too.
Humanise is written for readers. It removes the habits that make prose feel generated and leaves you text you can put your name to. If your school, client or publisher asks you to disclose AI use, humanising does not change that.
Who is Humanise for?
- Marketing and content teams who draft with AI and publish under their own name.
- Agencies tidying AI-assisted drafts before a client reads them.
- Businesses sending out reports, proposals and web copy that started in a chatbot.
- Writers who used AI for a first draft and want it to read like a person wrote it.
How do I humanise a document?
Upload the document as you would for a proofread and switch on Humanise. Choose the dialect your readers use and, if your account has one, your style guide. We email you when the document is ready, and you can see how many AI tells were removed.
Sending by email instead? Put the word “humanise” (or “humanize”) in the subject or body and Humanise is switched on for the attachments.
Frequently asked questions
What does it mean to humanise AI content?
It means rewriting text produced by an AI model so it reads as if a person wrote it: plain words, varied sentences, no filler. ProofedAI does this inside your document and keeps every fact, name and number as written.
Will Humanise change my facts or figures?
No. Humanise rewrites the wording, not the substance. Names, numbers, dates and claims stay as they are, and so does the structure of your document. If you want the facts themselves checked, add a fact-check to the same upload.
Does Humanise promise to beat AI detectors?
No. AI detectors disagree with each other and change often, so nobody can honestly promise that. Humanise is judged by how the writing reads to people.
Which AI tells does Humanise remove?
Filler phrases, stacked hedges, rule-of-three reflexes, pet words such as “delve” and “tapestry”, “it is important to note”, identical paragraph openers and overused em dashes. You get a count of how many it removed.
Does Humanise follow my style guide?
Yes. If your account has a style guide, the rewritten sentences follow it, so your preferred spellings, terms and rules survive the rewrite.
Is Humanise the same as Professional edit?
No. Professional edit tightens any document the way a senior editor would. Humanise goes after the habits of machine-written text. They are separate options on the upload form.
