About ProofedAI
What is ProofedAI?
ProofedAI is an AI proofreading service. You upload a document, choose its language, and get the same file back with every correction tracked and explained. It can also humanise AI-drafted text and fact-check a document.
Who makes ProofedAI?
Proofed, a proofreading and editing company (proofed.com). ProofedAI is its AI service, and its engine is tested against documents Proofed’s own editors have corrected.
What is Elizabeth?
Elizabeth is the AI engine behind ProofedAI, built by Proofed. It reads your document, decides what to change and writes the changes back into your file, each with a short note.
Does a person read my document?
Not unless you ask. ProofedAI is an AI proofreader. If you want a human editor as well, tick the option to send the document to proofed.com for human review when you upload it.
Files and languages
Which file types can I upload?
Word (.docx), PDF, PowerPoint (.pptx), OpenDocument (.odt), HTML, EPUB, rich text (.rtf) and plain text (.txt), up to 96MB per file.
What do I get back?
Your own file. Word and OpenDocument files come back with tracked changes, PDFs with annotations, PowerPoint decks with comments on each slide, and HTML and EPUB files with changes marked inline. Every change is also listed on your results page.
Will my formatting change?
No. ProofedAI edits the words and leaves the layout alone, and you decide which changes to keep.
Which languages and dialects are supported?
British, American, Canadian, Irish, Australian, New Zealand, South African and Indian English, plus Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. Through the API you can also choose regional Spanish, French, German and Portuguese.
Humanise and fact-checking
What does Humanise do?
It rewrites machine-sounding prose so it reads as if a person wrote it, keeps every fact, name, number and the document’s structure, follows your style guide, and tells you how many AI tells it removed.
Will humanised text pass AI detectors?
We do not promise that. AI detectors disagree with each other and change often. Humanise is written for readers, not for detectors.
What does a fact-check report contain?
A summary, a count of verified, contradicted and unverifiable claims, and each claim with its verdict, reasoning and sources. You can read it on the results page or download it as a Word document.
Can ProofedAI follow my style guide?
Yes. Style guides are set up per account. Once yours is loaded, you choose it at upload and every change it drives cites the rule behind it. Email ai@proofed.com to add one.
Pricing and tokens
How much does ProofedAI cost?
1 token per 1,000 words (or part), minimum one per document. A fact-check costs the same again. Every new account gets 10 free tokens on sign-up.
Do I need a card to start?
No. Sign up with your email address or Google and your free tokens are there straight away.
How do I get more tokens?
There is no online checkout yet. Email ai@proofed.com with roughly how many words you need and we will top up your account.
API, MCP and email
Is there an API?
Yes. A REST API lets you submit documents, fetch the corrections, download the marked-up file and receive webhooks when a document is done. There is an OpenAPI specification too.
Can I use ProofedAI from Claude or Cursor?
Yes. ProofedAI runs an MCP server. Connect it to Claude, Cursor or another MCP client, sign in once, and the assistant can proofread or fact-check documents for you.
Can I submit documents by email?
Yes. Email Word, PDF, OpenDocument, HTML, RTF or text files as attachments from the address on your account and they are proofread in British English. Put “humanise” (or “humanize”) in the subject or body to switch on Humanise for the attachments. Ask us for the address to send to.
