From upload to tracked changes in four steps

You upload a document, choose its language and any options, and Elizabeth, Proofed’s AI engine, proofreads it. We email you when it is ready, and you download the same file with every change tracked and explained, ready to review. There is no software to install.

What are the steps?

  1. Step 1: Upload your document

Drop a file on the upload box, or send it through the API, the MCP server or email. Word, PDF, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, HTML, EPUB, RTF and plain text files are accepted, up to 96MB each.

  2. Step 2: Choose the language and options

Pick the English dialect or language your readers use, and your style guide if your account has one. Then switch on any extras: Humanise, Professional edit, a fact-check or human review by Proofed.

  3. Step 3: Elizabeth proofreads it

Elizabeth, the AI engine Proofed built, reads the whole document, so it can keep terms consistent from the first page to the last. Where a fix depends on what you meant, it leaves a comment instead of guessing.

  4. Step 4: Review the changes and download

We email you when it is ready. The results page lists every change with its note. Download your file and accept or reject the changes as you would a colleague’s.

How long does it take?

It depends on the length of the document and the options you choose: a fact-check or Professional edit adds work. You do not need to keep the page open. We email you as soon as the document is ready, and API users can have a webhook call them instead.

Can I send documents from other tools?

REST API

Submit documents, poll their status, fetch the structured list of corrections and download the marked-up file. Webhooks tell your system when a document is done, and there is an OpenAPI specification to generate a client from. Read the API documentation.

MCP server for AI assistants

Connect ProofedAI to Claude, Cursor or another MCP client, sign in once, and ask the assistant to proofread or fact-check a document for you. Set up the MCP server.

Email

Send a Word, PDF, OpenDocument, HTML, RTF or text file as an attachment from the address on your account, and it is proofread in British English. Ask us for the address to send to.

Put the word “humanise” (or “humanize”) in the subject or body of the email and Humanise AI content is switched on for the attachments.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. ProofedAI runs in your browser. Developers can use the REST API, and AI assistants can use the MCP server.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Signing up is free, with 10 free tokens on sign-up. After that, a proofread costs 1 token per 1,000 words (or part), minimum one.

Where do I see the changes?

In two places: inside the file you download, and on the results page, which lists every change with its note.

What if a change cannot be placed in my file?

Occasionally a change cannot be written into the file itself. It still appears on the results page, labelled “not in document”, so you can make it by hand.

Can I choose British or American English?

Yes, and six more English dialects: Canadian, Irish, Australian, New Zealand, South African and Indian. Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese are available too.

Can I send more than one document?

Yes. Upload them one at a time on the website, attach several to one email, or submit them from your own software through the API.
